mIsrael Interactive iPad application- Interactive tour guide
By Aaron Herman
Tech is transforming the way we interact with our surroundings. Now there is an opportunity to learn more about sites when you travel. mIsrael enables travelers, educators and stuents a new way to learn about Israel history and culture. mIsrael is a fully interactive multi-touch Israel application that allows tourists ,educators and students to learn about Israel in an unique and hands on virtual environment. This application is the first educational Israel application of its kind, and provides the following capabilities:
Backend – this application will have a backend system, perhaps PHP and MySQL, we will host this data and the iPAD which pull down information and new content when available. It also allows us to continuously add new information like “recommended places to eat”, tips on the area for tourists, store data about comments users had on that geographic region and recommendations on restaurants, clubs, bar, etc.. Via this backed we will need to be able to add locations, their GPS coordinates, location info, pictures, videos, timeline, and biblical references.
Photos — Ability to see pictures associated with a geographic region. Ideally the ability to have these photos float around on the screen with ability to rotate and scale would be great as well as full screen. Otherwise just to be able to navigate through the pictures but be able to scale using your fingers and flick from one pic to the next would suffice. Ability to also see related pictures from Social media sources like Flickr
Videos — Ability to see videos related to that geographic region as well as pull up related videos from social media sources like YouTube.
MAP — The map allows you to see the geographic region, I wonder if its possible to cache certain data from Google. I have seen it done before.
History info — Each geographical place has historical data (history of the city or ruin, etc)
Biblical Reference — Certain places in the Holy land have biblical references to them, it would be nice for the place to show the areas in the bible which reference that region.
Tourist info — such as local attractions, places to eat, shops, as well as visitor comments so that others who have visited a particular location can share comments and warnings to other tourists.
Timeline — certain geographic locations can have timelines in which there is a historical timeline which tells you the history of that location based on different time periods.
Directions — ideally the ability to also get directions to and from things in that geographic location
Sharing — idea is that people can share their experiences in that geographic region on twitter or Facebook or to our own database to be shared with other tourists.
mIsrael will be available on the apple’s app store at the end of the year.
