Founded in 2004, Sensi6, a non-profit event consulting and planning group emerged out of the desire to create charity events that target a younger generation of givers. Sensi6 focuses its attention on organizations that need help strengthening their presence in the United States and for whom such an event is truly critical. Through generous support of many people they have been successful in raising awareness and hundreds of thousands of dollars for very worthy causes over the past few years.

In a push to address the growing number of families, children, elderly and homeless suffering from food insecurity in Israel, Sensi hosted its sixth annual gala on June 2nd at 23 Wall Street, NYC to help raise money for Leket Israel—Israel’s largest National food bank and leading food rescue network.
Founded in 2003, Leket Israel has grown from a single volunteer with a minivan to a staff of 80 and a volunteer base of 40,000. The organization rescues 700,000mealsand13 million lbsofproduceandperishable goods, andsupplies over 1 million (7,000/day)volunteer prepared sandwichesto underprivileged children.According to the latest poverty report from the National Insurance Institute of Israel in November 2010, there are1,774,800 people living below the poverty line; among them are 850,300 children!
Proceeds from Sensi6 were donated towards Leket’s Nighttime Meal Rescue Project. According to Joseph Gitler, Founder and Chairman of Leket Israel, last year 800 registered volunteers collected 350,000 excess mealsin the late evening hours from over 200 banquet halls, caterers, restaurants, and foodcourts inmalls throughout Israel. “People don’t realize that 30-40% of all food produced in Israel is thrown away before it ever has a chance to be consumed,” he said.
Sensi6 founders Maya Cohen Abitbol, Nicole Katz Kavana and Daniella Kahane Levy chose Leket Israel as the beneficiary of Sensi6 in order to raise awareness about the food insecurity crisis in Israel and help feed the less fortunate. They also wanted to support a charity with a grassroots and forward thinking approach. “Despite its exponential growth, Leket Israel is still very much under the radar in the US and we thought they would greatly benefit from the opportunity to have their first ever gala event in the US,” said Sensi6 founders.
The key to Sensi6’s past success is the crowd of hundreds that attend. “We tend to attract a hip and younger generation of givers living in the NY area that enjoy luxury,” added Sensi6 founders. “But Sensi6 also indulges people of all ages through the five senses by providing gourmet kosher food, fine wine, enjoyable music, an upscale raffle and a high-end art auction.”
Sensi6 also introduces a sixth sense —the sense to give. Attendees support the charity not only purchasing the $180 ticket but also by buying raffle tickets or bidding on art. The live auction was conducted by Adrien Meyer, Vice President and Specialist at Christie’s, and will also include donated works of arts by Israeli artists. Other sponsors of the event were JSR Capital, Scoop Events, Royal Kosher Wines, Whitewall, Psagot, Hedleys, Security USA, Covenant, Duty Free America and Dream Water.
